What it catches

The tone problems that make emails get ignored or misread.

ApologeticConfident

Spot the "sorry to bother you" and "just checking in" that bury your request.

BluntDirect and kind

See when a short reply will read as annoyed, before your manager does.

VagueClear ask

Find out whether the reader can tell what you need from them, and by when.

LongEasy to answer

Know when the point is hiding in paragraph three.

What the checker looks at

A read of how the email lands, plus signals counted from your text, so you can see what causes it.

How it reads
One sentence on how the email will land with the person receiving it, and the one thing that most affects that.
Issues
Up to three specific problems, quoting your own words, such as an apology before the ask or a missing deadline.
Apologies and hedges
Counts of "sorry", "just", "I was wondering" and similar softeners. One is polite; several make you sound unsure.
Sentence length and length
Long sentences and long emails hide the point. The checker flags both.
Where your question is
A question near the end of a long email is easy to miss. Leading with it makes it easier to answer.
Exclamation marks
Friendly in a chat, anxious in a work email when there is more than one.

Three tone problems in work emails

The ones the checker catches most often, with a version that keeps the meaning and fixes the tone.

Burying the ask under apologies

Before

I'm so sorry to bother you, I know you're busy, but I was wondering if you might have a moment to look at the proposal?

After

Could you review the proposal by Thursday?

Sounding curt when you meant efficient

Before

Need the numbers today.

After

Could you send the numbers today? I need them for the 4pm call.

No clear ask at all

Before

Just wanted to share the draft with you, let me know your thoughts whenever.

After

Here is the draft. Could you tell me by Friday whether the pricing section works?

Check the tone, then change it

The checker tells you how an email will come across. To change it, use the tone changer, or open the email in your workspace, where ToneSwap rewrites it in your own voice and checks that the names, dates, numbers and questions in your draft are still there.
